Putrajaya Masterplan
South of Kuala Lumpur, Putrayjaya is one of Malaysia’s flourishing cities with 20th century architecture and natural landscape.
LDPi prepared a concept strategy of external lighting for vehicular and pedestrian circulation, alongside exterior illumination of building facades and public urban space for this new city located on the island – a first where a lighting strategy had been prepared for a purpose-built city.
For the masterplanning study, LDPi provided a lighting strategy for street lighting in conjunction with gateway bridges and connecting infrastructure to the island. Iconic landmark buildings and associated landscapes were considered as part of a guidelines strategy for future developments. The narrative was to physically connect visitors across the city whilst exploring human scale illumination for a more personal association with the city’s built environment.
The design narrative also identified the importance of utilising the surrounding water to the city’s island which would help create reflections from illuminated buildings and provide a skyline ‘postcard’ image that would produce a lasting memory for visitors.
